The difference between mooring chain and general anchor chain
Aug 06,2025

The mooring chain is different from the general anchor chain. It is the chain used to fix marine structural parts such as oil drilling platforms. Due to its harsh working environment, there are many requirements for this chain, such as strength, stiffness, and defects detection, etc.
With the development of the marine resources development industry, especially marine facilities such as offshore oil production, marine exploration, and national defense construction require the use of a large number of mooring chains. Due to the harsh environmental conditions of the ocean, especially the deep sea, and the large-scale marine facilities, more stringent requirements have been placed on the comprehensive performance of the steel used for mooring chains, not only requiring high mechanical properties, but also good seawater corrosion resistance, fatigue resistance, wear resistance, excellent welding performance and good welding joints impact toughness under low temperature.
At present, the grade 3 marine anchor chain steel produced in China is far from meeting the above performance requirements, and the development and production of R4 grade marine mooring chain steel is particularly necessary.
